Set two of Identify
I would have been remiss to have not created a set that honors just how important music making is to my home of Identity. I find peace, inspiration, support, and enlightenment through my interactions with musical creation. I would bet many of you reading this are accustomed to a similar experience, being that you are sharing in this art with me! For this pillar, I wanted to pay homage to the basics of recital planning and performance that each classical singer learns very early in their musical education. Even though I tend to take issue with the outdated educational exercise that is the academic recital, it felt only appropriate to reference its form and intent as I hope to highlight how humans have adored music through time. You will hear the connections that Henry Purcell (1659-1695), Franz Schubert (1797-1828), and Richard Strauss (1864-1949) make, relating the holy art of music to our deepest love, our calm through the storm, and even to the highest of angels above.
